Trump: EU Has Called to Schedule Meeting Times Soon
Former U.S. President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that the European Union (EU) has contacted American officials to schedule trade discussions following his recent announcement of a 50% tariff on EU goods.
Posting on Truth Social, Trump wrote:
"I was very happy with the 50% tariff distribution to the European Union, especially since they were slow walking (to say the least!) our negotiations with them."
He continued by revealing that he was informed the EU reached out to set up trade talks:
"I have just been informed that the EU has contacted us to arrange meeting times in a speedy manner. This is a good thing, and I hope that they will, like my similar call to China, open the European Nations to Trade with the United States of America."
Trump’s remarks come amid increased global attention on U.S. trade policies. While the former president is not currently in office, his statements often influence market expectations and political discourse around international trade strategy.
Analysts view the EU's response as a signal that pressure from tariff threats may be bringing both sides closer to resuming meaningful negotiations.
