Wells Fargo: Dollar Weakness Likely Temporary Amid Market Repricing

Wells Fargo analysts downplayed the sharp selloff in the U.S. dollar, calling it an unusual and likely short-term shift driven by market repositioning, not fundamentals.
The dollar, traditionally a safe-haven in times of volatility, has fallen around 8% this year as policy risks from within the U.S. triggered investor caution. Treasury bonds, another risk-free benchmark, have also come under pressure.
Despite echoes of past U.S.-driven crises, Wells Fargo noted U.S. assets typically performed well in previous episodes like the 2008 financial crash. The bank views the latest retreat as a temporary reaction to fading U.S. exceptionalism rather than a structural breakdown.
Investors' earlier heavy bets on U.S. assets have simply been scaled back, analysts said, predicting the dollar’s safe-haven appeal will ultimately endure.
